Why do we as a nation of free, equal people, protected under law, and "endowed by our creator with certain un alienable right to include life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" still withhold the right to choose who we can be married too based on another’s beliefs? The rights of gay, and lesbian couples are no less valid or important then those of any other couple.
All people should be provided the right to determine what is right for them, and what makes them happy. We do not as individuals have to agree with it, but we do need to respect it as a basic human right. If a gay couple wants to commit to each other, in front of their friends, family, and god then who are we to refuse them the right to do so, just because we do not share their believes? Legal Marriage is unfortunately not an option as of yet in the state of Texas, but there is nothing that prohibits the joining of a gay couple in all but the legal paper.
A wedding is a covenant between two people that love each other; there are options outside of legal marriage that are available to gay and lesbian couples. Traditional weddings and Handfasting are just a few. Traditional marriage is allowed, although it will not be recognized by the state at this time. If you would like to marry your partner, I can, and will perform your ceremony, and will agree in writing via a waver of agreement between us to perform a simple civil ceremony once Texas makes same sex marriages legal. I am happy to talk with you about options available to any couple of legal age.
